Video too large to upload: how to reduce file size

Learn how to reduce a video file size before uploading it to your media library.

This article explains what to do when a video file is too large to upload to your Learnybox media library.

Use it when your video exceeds the individual upload limit and you need to reduce its file size before uploading it again.

Upload limit and storage capacity

Learnybox allows you to upload videos to your Library. Each individual file must be no larger than 1 GB.

Your total available storage depends on your subscription plan:

  • 2 GB

  • 10 GB

  • 50 GB

  • 100 GB

If your video file exceeds the 1 GB limit, reduce its size before uploading it.

Option 1 - Re-encode the video

You can use HandBrake, a free video encoding tool, to compress your video without reducing its quality too much.

Download HandBrake here.

After re-encoding the video, upload the compressed file to your account library.

Option 2 - Use YouTube to optimize the file

You can also use YouTube to process and optimize the video file.

To do this:

  1. Upload your video to YouTube.

  2. Wait until the video has been processed.

  3. Download the optimized version.

  4. Upload the optimized video file to your account library.

At this stage, your video file has been reduced below the upload limit and can be uploaded to your account library.
