How to restrict access to the next course page until a quiz, survey, or evaluation is completed

Control course progression by unlocking the next page only after learners meet the required questionnaire conditions.

This article explains how to prevent learners from accessing the next course page until they have completed a survey, quiz, or evaluation.

Use it when you want progression through your course to depend on a questionnaire result rather than allowing learners to move directly on to the next page.

Before you start

Your course must use the Restricted Open Access delivery method.

This delivery method is required to conditionally control access to the next course page based on questionnaire completion.

Step 1 - Hide the "Next" button on the course page

  1. Go to Academy → Courses

  2. Select the course you wish to configure.
    ​

  3. Open the Content tab.

  4. Locate the course page that contains (or will contain) your quiz or evaluation.

    Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) to the right of the page, and select Page properties
    ​

  5. Enable the Hide “Next” button setting.
    ​

  6. Click Confirm to save and apply your changes.

The learner can now move to the next page only when the required condition is met.

Step 2 - Add the questionnaire to the course page (if not already done)

  1. Navigate to Academy → Courses

  2. Select the course you wish to configure.
    ​

  3. Open the Content tab.

  4. Locate the course page you wish to configure. Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) to the right of the page, and select Build to open it in the page editor.
    ​

  5. In the Elements panel, locate the Dynamic elements. Drag and drop the Survey Quiz Evaluation element onto your desired page section.
    ​

  6. Select the questionnaire you want to embed.
    ​

  7. Click Save (bottom left), then Click Finish (top right) to apply your changes and exit the editor.


Step 3 - Configure the condition that unlocks the next page

a) For a Quiz

  1. Go to Academy → Quizzes

  2. Select the quiz you wish to configure.
    ​

  3. Open the Settings tab.

  4. Open the Registration sub-tab.

  5. Set a minimum passing score (e.g., 80%).
    ​

  6. Click Next step (bottom right) to save and apply your changes.

Once the learner completes the quiz and reaches the minimum passing score, the Next button appears automatically, allowing them to continue.

b) For an Evaluation

  1. Go to Academy → Evaluations

  2. Select the evaluation you wish to configure.
    ​

  3. Open the Actions tab.

  4. Click Create action
    ​

  5. Set a score range that represents a passing result. This range should match the scoring logic configured in the evaluation’s calculation.

  6. Set the action: Grant access to next page of the course
    ​

  7. Click Confirm (bottom right) to save and apply your changes.

c) For a Survey

Surveys do not require any additional configuration to unlock the next course page because they do not use a passing score.

If a survey is added to the course page and you want learners to complete it before continuing, they simply need to answer the survey questions and submit their responses.

Once the survey has been completed and the responses have been submitted, the Next button appears automatically, allowing the learner to continue to the next course page.

⚠️ Make sure the questionnaire is activated. It must be active to appear on the course page where you added it.

What happens after setup?

The Next button remains hidden until the learner meets the condition configured for the questionnaire.

Once the requirements are met, the button appears and the learner can continue to the next course page.
