How to limit the number of attempts for a survey, quiz, or evaluation

Control how many times users can participate in a survey, quiz, or evaluation.

This article explains how to limit the number of times a users can participate in a survey, quiz, or evaluation.

Use it when you want to allow only one attempt, or set a specific number of attempts instead of giving participants unlimited access.

How access limits work

The access value determines how many times a user can participate in the questionnaire.

  • If you keep the default value of 0, participants have unlimited access and can complete it as many times as they want.

  • If you enter 1, participants can complete it once.

  • You can also enter another value to allow a specific number of attempts.

This restriction remains in place while the user is listed in the questionnaire’s participant list. If you manually delete their participant record, they can complete the questionnaire again.

How to Set the Access Limit

For Surveys

  1. Go to Marketing → Surveys

  2. Click the name of the survey you wish to configure.
    ​

  3. Open the Settings tab

  4. Open the Registration sub-tab

  5. Set a value under Survey access
    ​

  6. Click Next step (bottom right) to save and apply your changes.

For Quizzes

  1. Go to Academy → Quizzes

  2. Click the name of the quiz you wish to configure.
    ​

  3. Open the Settings tab

  4. Open the Registration sub-tab

  5. Set a value under Quiz access
    ​

  6. Click Next step (bottom right) to save and apply your changes.

For Evaluations

  1. Go to Academy → Evaluations

  2. Click the name of the evaluation you wish to configure.
    ​

  3. Open the Settings tab

  4. Open the Settings sub-tab

  5. Set a value under Evaluation access
    ​

  6. Click Next step (bottom right) to save and apply your changes.


What happens after setting the limit?

Participants can complete the survey, quiz, or evaluation only as many times as the access value allows.


If you keep the default value (0):

  • Participants will have unlimited access to the questionnaire.

  • They will be able to complete it as many times as they want.

If, for example, you enter 1:

  • Participants will only be able to complete the questionnaire once.

  • This restriction applies as long as they remain listed in the questionnaire’s participant list.

  • If you manually delete a participant's record from the questionnaire's participant list, they will be able to attempt it again.
