Can funds be recovered after a LearnyPay transfer is sent to a closed bank account?

Understand what happens when funds are transferred to a closed bank account and whether they can be recovered.

This article explains what to do when a bank account that has been closed is still registered in your LearnyPay Wallet and funds are accidentally transferred to it.

In this situation, MangoPay may be able to initiate a funds recall request, but recovery is not automatic, cannot be guaranteed, and may take several weeks.

Why can this happen?

You can register several bank accounts in your LearnyPay wallet. When one of these accounts has been closed but remains registered in your wallet, it may be selected accidentally when transferring funds. The transfer is then sent using the bank details of the closed account.

What happens after the transfer?

When funds are transferred to a closed bank account, MangoPay, our payment provider, may initiate a funds recall request. This process is intended to recover the funds transferred by mistake.

Are the funds recovered automatically?

No. A funds recall request must first be submitted. Whether the funds can be recovered then depends on how the request is processed.

⚠️ Submitting a funds recall request does not guarantee that the funds will be recovered. The outcome depends on the banks involved and whether the transferred amount can still be returned.

When the recall request is successful, the funds are automatically credited back to your LearnyPay Wallet.

What happens on the MangoPay side?

When a transfer is sent to a closed bank account, MangoPay may initiate a funds recall request to attempt to recover the transferred amount.

This process requires communication between the banks involved and is not immediate.

⚠️ A funds recall request may take several weeks to complete.

When the request is successful, the funds are automatically credited back to your LearnyPay wallet.

What should you do when you notice the error?

Contact Learnybox support as soon as possible and provide:

  • the transfer amount

  • the transfer date

  • the bank account concerned

Support can review the situation with MangoPay and inform you of the available next steps.

How to prevent this situation

To avoid accidentally sending funds to a closed bank account, remove any bank accounts that are no longer active from your LearnyPay wallet.
Before confirming a transfer, always check that the selected bank account and its details are still valid.

At this stage, you know that funds transferred to a closed bank account may, in some cases, be recovered through a funds recall procedure and credited back to your LearnyPay wallet.
