How to replace an existing custom domain and link your content to the new domain

Learn how to replace your custom domain without losing your content, then link your existing content to the new domain.

This article explains how to replace a previously configured custom domain in Learnybox without losing your pages, sales funnels, courses, webinars, or other content.

Adding a custom domain is a global configuration that only needs to be completed once. However, when replacing it with another custom domain, your existing content will not be updated automatically. You must manually link the new domain to each relevant item.

Step 1: Add your new custom domain

Start by adding the new domain you want to use:

  1. Go to Settings → Custom Domains
    ​

  2. Click Add domain
    ​

  3. Enter your new subdomain, such as www.mydomain.com
    ​

  4. Click Confirm to save

Step 2: Configure the domain with your registrar

After adding the domain in Learnybox, configure the required DNS records through your domain registrar or DNS provider, such as OVH, IONOS, Gandi, or Cloudflare.

Once DNS propagation is complete, the domain can be validated. When its status changes to Active, it is ready to use.

At this stage, you should have two active custom domains – the one you wish to replace (still set as your primary domain), and the new one to be used (which defaulted to a secondary domain).

Good to know

Learnybox only supports subdomains, such as:

The root domain, such as mydomain.com, is not supported.

Step 3: Set the new domain as your primary domain

Once the domain has been validated:

  1. Return to Settings → Custom Domains

  2. Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) to the right of the new domain to access its action menu

  3. Select Set as primary domain

Any new content you create will now use this domain by default.

Step 4: Link your existing content to the new domain

Setting a new primary domain does not automatically update your existing content.

You must manually select the new domain in the settings of each relevant item.

Open the content settings and use the Domain field if available

For each item:

  1. Open the relevant content

  2. Access its Settings

  3. Select the new domain in the Domain field

  4. Save your changes

Repeat these steps for all content you want to publish using the new domain.

Step 5: Deactivate the old domain

Once all relevant content has been linked to the new domain, you can deactivate the old one:

  1. Go to Settings → Custom Domains

  2. Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) to the right of the old domain to access its action menu

  3. Select Deactivate

⚠️ Important: Do not deactivate the old domain until you have confirmed that all relevant content is linked to the new one.

What happens if content is no longer linked to an active domain?

When the old domain is deactivated before all existing content has been updated, some content may temporarily no longer be linked to an active domain.

To correct this:

  1. Open the relevant content

  2. Access its Settings

  3. Select the new domain in the Domain field

  4. Save your changes

The content will then be published using the selected domain.

FAQ

Will changing my domain delete my content?

No. Your pages, sales funnels, courses, webinars, and other content will remain available.

Will setting a new primary domain automatically update my existing content?

No. The primary domain is only applied by default to new content.
Existing content must be updated manually.

Can I deactivate or delete my old domain immediately?

It is recommended that you deactivate or remove it only after confirming that all relevant content is using the new domain.

Can I use the root domain of my website?
