LearnyPay: Insufficient wallet balance error when refunding a customer

Understand why the insufficient wallet balance error occurs and what you need to check before refunding a customer.

This article explains why an insufficient wallet balance error may appear when you try to refund a customer transaction through LearnyPay.

This usually means that the amount currently available in your LearnyPay wallet is not sufficient to process the refund, even if the total wallet balance appears high enough.

Check the amount actually available in your LearnyPay wallet

Your LearnyPay wallet may display a balance that is higher than the amount you can actually use to issue a refund.

This can happen when you have recently received funds. The amount from these transactions is included in your wallet balance, but the funds are not yet available for use. These funds are subject to a 7-day security period before they can be used.

To check whether this is the case, you can view the amount available when requesting a transfer to your bank account.

If the available amount is zero or lower than the refund you want to issue, you do not yet have sufficient funds available to process the refund.

Also check automatic transfers

Check whether you have enabled automatic transfers of your available balance to your bank account.

When this feature is enabled, the available balance in your wallet may be automatically transferred to your bank account.

As a result, your LearnyPay wallet may show a zero balance when you try to issue a refund.

To check whether automatic transfers are enabled:

  1. Go to your LearnyPay wallet settings.

  2. Open the Automatic transfer sub-tab.

What should you do if the available balance is insufficient?

The solution depends on the situation.

Your available balance is zero

If your LearnyPay wallet has no funds available, you must wait for new transactions to add funds to your wallet and for your available balance to become high enough to process the refund.

Your wallet balance is higher than the refund amount, but the amount actually available is insufficient

In this case, some of the funds may still be subject to the 7-day security period.

You must wait until these funds become available. Once the amount actually available is sufficient, you can request the refund.

Key points to remember

The insufficient wallet balance error message does not necessarily mean that the amount displayed in your wallet is lower than the refund amount.

The most important amount to check is the amount actually available. If this amount is insufficient, the refund cannot be processed.

If some funds are still subject to the 7-day security period, you must wait until they become available before issuing the refund.
