How to follow up with an inactive member

Learn how to automatically re-engage course members by email when they have not logged in to their course for a specified period.

This article explains why following up with an inactive member can be useful and how to enable login notifications for a course.

You will also learn how to set the inactivity period, customize the email, and save the notification settings.

Following up with a member who has not logged in for some time helps bring the course back to their attention at the right moment. This can reduce drop-off, encourage them to continue learning, and maintain engagement without having to monitor each member manually.

Step 1 – Enable login notifications

  1. Go to Academy → Courses

  2. Select the relevant course.

  3. Access the course's notification settings:
Open the Settings tab, then open the Notifications sub-tab

  4. Expand the Login notifications section

  5. Toggle the checkbox to enable login notifications

This option allows an email to be sent to members who have not logged in to their course for a specified number of days.

Step 2 – Set the inactivity period

Under Number of days since last login, enter the number of days after which you want to trigger the follow up with members.

This number sets the inactivity threshold from which the follow-up email can be sent.

Step 3 – Write the follow-up email

In the Email subject field, enter the title of your email.

In the Email content field, write the message you want to send to members.

You can personalize the email using the variables displayed in the Variable list.

For an effective follow-up, keep the message simple and direct. For example, remind the member why they enrolled, invite them to continue from where they left off, and add a direct access link to the course using the [[URL_COURSE]] variable.

Step 4 – Save the configuration

Once everything is ready, click Confirm changes (bottom right) to save and apply your changes.

The login notification is now configured for this course.

What this means for your learners

When a member of the course has not logged in to their course area for the number of days you specified, the login notification will be triggered, and they should receive the follow-up email you configured.

When variables are included in the message, the content automatically adapts to the member and course information. This allows you to send a more personalized follow-up that is easier to understand and act on.
